Please note: In the event that you are unable to attend class, you must notify Cascade Glass Art Center at least 15 business days prior to the class start in order to receive a full refund of class tuition. Cancellations made fewer than 15 business days prior will be refunded or exchanged only if we are able to fill your place. In the event CGAC cancels a class, you may choose to have the class fee refunded or applied to a future class. We are not responsible for reimbursing travel costs or other reservation fees.

This course covers various types of molds used in glass art including
the latest information and techniques. Fiber board molds for slumping,
casting and bas relief. Lectures, discussions and samples on open and
closed mold techniques as well as firing schedule information.
Hands on kiln casting in open face molds using Castalot,a one step refireable mold material.This will be used with a plasticene original.
Heavy emphasis on the use of frits and pre made inclusions will
widen your horizons as a glass artist. Michael has a personable, informative style of teaching and will gladly address issues and questions regarding the direction of your work.

CREATE MORE REALISTIC FUSED GLASS PICTURES.... with Jan Schrader
Janet, the author of The Art Of Fusing Pictures In Art, is coming to Cascade to teach the techniques she describes in her book. Learn to combine frit, confetti, stringers, and mica, and how to layer glass to get shading and different effects to create more realistic pictures in glass. Using all these different elements require different firing temperatures so you will learn how to control the temperature to get these results. You will make a single fired project chosen by the instructor that uses all of the elements learned in class.

She's back with some new techniques up her sleeve using fused glass components or pattern pieces fired in a kiln, and then incorporated as features within a mosaic design. This visit she will introduce the use of recycled glass and 'whatever' which leads to more design possiblilities. Begin with the creative journey on Friday afternoon. On Saturday cross over into the visual journey. The effect is unusual and unique, the softened-rounded edges creating dramatic contrast to the neighboring non-fired pieces. Within the two and half day class you will complete ‘Hot Mosaic’ picture to hang on the wall, measuring 12 x 12 inches. She will also demonstrate advanced cutting skills with the glass mosaic cutters and offer tips and shortcuts for achieving stunning mosaic designs, gluing and finishing, and how to color grout.

Practice a variety of techniques unique to glass powders, including color blending and shading for 'painting', sgraffito, combing and feathering, line work, resists, templates, faux sandblasting, and how to pull out ovesifted powder. Please feel free to stop by the store and see first hand Linda's work and examples of what you'll learn during this incredible class.

FUSED DICHROIC JEWELRY with Carmen Daquila
Let your creativity flow!!! For beginners as well as the experienced fuser. Learn techniques such as creating depth and building volume with dichroic glass. The potential for jewelry making is limitless. This class will cover how to make fused glass beads and pieces for pendants, broaches and earrings with layering different glass for special effects. Carmen's jewelry is on display at the store....stop by and see for yourself her wonderful work.

This course focuses on design and process for landscape in fused glass, as Roger Thomas shares his techniques and philosophy of his Glass Paintings. Roger is known to students of glass for his varied and unusual glass fusing techniques with which he creates his art. During this class the student will complete four landscape samples, as Roger discusses and demonstrates how he creates color, depth and translucency in his work.

INTRODUCTION TO GLASS FUSING with RAY FOSSUM
Learn all the basic fusing skills through this popular hands-on workshop. Lectures on fusing theory and terminology, kiln preparation and firing schedule information will be covered. Explore ideas of designs and color balance while you complete two projects, including one slumped piece.
